Q.    How many types of memberships the PYHA is offering?
A.    Categories:
  1. Ordinary membership.
  2. International membership.
  3. Group membership.
  4. Life membership.
Q.    What are the requirements to get membership ?
A.     Requirements:
       
Ordinary membership:
  1. Membership form to be filled.
  2. Photocopy of ID Card (Attested by a Government Gazetted officer).
  3. Two attested photographs.
  4. Prescribed membership fee to be paid.
       
International membership
  1. Membership form to be filled.
  2. Photocopy of ID Card (Attested by a Government Gazetted officer).
  3. Attested Photocopy of first four pages of passport.
  4. Two attested photographs.
  5. Prescribed membership fee to be paid.

        Group membership

  1. Form filed by the head of University /School / College / Institution /Club /Association.
  2. Prescribed fee to be paid.
  3. Attestation by head of the institution / department.
       
Life membership
  1. Form to be filled.
  2. Two attested photographs.
  3. Prescribed fee to be paid.
  4. Approval by the Executive Committee.
  5. Minimum five year services to promote Youth Hostel Movement.
Q.    After obtaining membership what a member possess ?
A.     The membership card issued after fulfilling the
       requirements enable them to stay in the local/foreign
       Hostels by adopting a prescribed procedure.
Q.    If a non-member needs to stay in the hostel what he should do?
A.     A permit book is also kept in the hostels for the individuals who do not possess the membership card at the time of entrance in the hostel. They are issued a permit, which enable them to stay in the hostel and also to get membership card after fulfilling the requirements.
Q.     What is the process of reservation ?
A.     Reservation
Individuals
  1. No advance booking is made for the individuals.
  2. Accommodation is provided subject to the availability.
Groups

Advance booking is made by the:

  1. Headquarters in Islamabad.
  2. Provincial office in Lahore.
  3. Provincial office in Lahore.
  4. By email / fax / telephone.
  5. After Payment of 50% of bed night charges.
Foreigners
  1. Advance booking is made through email/fax/tele.
  2. Valid membership card of the National Association of the home country affiliated with IYHF is required.
  3. Welcome cards to be purchased if the above is not available.
Q.    What is the mode of payment in the Youth Hostels?
A.     Mode of Payments
  1. The groups pay 50% advance of bed-night charges along with the group membership fee.
  2. A receipt is issued to every group or individual keeping a counter file.
Q.    How to get information about IYHF ?
A.     Sale of International Handbook and Welcome Tickets
  1. The Association sells the hand book called Hi Guides having the information of all the youth hostels affiliated with IYHF.
  2. The affiliation with IYHF allows the Association to issue the welcome tickets to the foreign tourists, who do not possess the membership of their own country.
Q.   What is the organizational structure of the PYHA?
A.    Executive Committee
      
The Executive Committee is the main governing body of the Association, which formulates controls and regulates the policies of the Association. Its members are elected/drawn from the Senior Civil Servants, Educationists and renowned social workers. The committee is presently headed by Senator Wasim Sajjad, Leader of the House in Senate of Pakistan.
      
YHA – Trust
      
All the property and income of the Association west in charitable Trust, which consist of 8 trustees, out of which one person is the Managing Trustee to regulate the activities of the Trust.

Local Management Committees:

      
The Association is presently running 16 Youth Hostels, from which 6 Youth Hostels (Khanaspur, Bhurban, Naran, Sharan, Batakundi and Gilgit) are on mountains and seasonal. The remaining 8 hostels excluding Islamabad and Lahore are manned by semi illiterate Caretakers who control the operational activities of the Hostels. In order to augment the deficiency of educated staff, the hostels are managed by the Local Management Committees. These committees consist of retired Government Servants, renowned Social Workers and educationists. In most cases it is headed by the Vice Chancellor of a University.
      
A double leaf bed-night register is kept in each hostel. The visitors holding the membership card make an entry of their stay in the register along with the amount paid and their signatures.


The Caretaker toward the end of the month sends the leaves of register with the entries of stay and payments to the Headquarters.

An imprest amount of Rs.1000/- is kept with the caretaker to meet the day-to-day expenditure. He sends the vouched accounts of the expenditure for reimbursement of the same.

Q.   What is International Youth Hostel Federation ?
A.    International Youth Hostel Federation

Pakistan Youth Hostels Association is an affiliate of International Youth Hostel Federation. Its headquarters are located at London . The IYHF coordinates the activities of the youth hostel associations of the world. An affiliation fee of $1000 is paid to the IYHF every year. IYHF prints a directory of the youth hostel associations of the world. The Federation indulged an ongoing research to modernize the various functions like minimum standards, free nights, training and computerization etc.

Q.   What is the main function of PYHA?
A.   The main function of the Association is to construct the youth hostel buildings at the big cities and hilly scenic spots of the country. The funding of the projects  is made partly by the Association and partly by the Government.  The Association by enlarged, by enlarged, get the construction ofthe hostels from the Government agencies as a deposit work.
